California has a new hobby...

From The Argus, a local paper:

Organizers expect this Sunday's antiwar rally in San Francisco could grow larger than last month's, at which crowd estimates ranged from between 100,000 and 250,000.

And the Bay Area is but one of more than 300 sites worldwide hosting such rallies this weekend.

Protesters will gather at 11 a.m. Sunday in Justin Herman Plaza at Embarcadero and Market Street, then stage a 1 p.m. march along Market to a 2 p.m. rally at the Civic Center.

The lefty talent-show goes on.

The event will feature speeches and performances by author Alice Walker; actor Danny Glover; singer-songwriter Joan Baez; Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, and United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta.

The concerned come in flavors...

  • A labor contingent will assemble at Spear and Folsom streets.
  • An interfaith contingent will assemble at 11 a.m. at the Civic Center for a service.
  • A women's contingent will gather at 10 a.m. at Montgomery and Market streets.
  • Artists and people of color will assemble at 10 a.m. at Yerba Buena Gardens, on Mission Street between 3rd and 4th.
  • An environmentalist contingent will gather at 11 a.m. at Spear and Drumm streets.
  • A student and youth contingent will gather for a Speak Out event at 11 a.m. at Golden Gate University, at Mission and First streets.
  • A gay and lesbian contingent will meet at 11 a.m. at Drumm and Market streets.
  • A "baby brigade" of parents and young children will meet at 11 a.m. at Powell and Market streets.
  • A Chinese community contingent will meet at 10 a.m. at Portsmouth Square.

Where will the Internet privacy and EFF contingent meet?

public policy   shrubbery

The House approved Republican welfare legislation today requiring more single mothers to work and providing hundreds of millions of dollars to promote marriage. Take mothers from their children, don't fund day care, defund training and education for social mobility. And assume bad times only strike once in a life time.

The radical right continues to get paid. More Shrubbery
