Blue Sky Radio technology
More public and commercial web services are available than ever. Xmethods.net lists hundreds, from a great circle distance calculator, a BookService that given an ISBN returns book info, weather, stock pricing, security authentication, FedEx tracking, etc. Each of these services has a WSDL file (web service description language) that tells you the inputs and outputs for this service. For example, Weather Fetcher's WSDL says that it uses HTTP/S, the Service is called "WeatherFetcher" on port "WeatherFetcherSoap." The operation name is "GetWeather", the SOAPAction is http://www.myasptools.com/GetWeather, and just about everything you need to know is documented there. My wish: A Radio tool that takes a WSDL file as input, and generates a macro for calling the service and presenting the results. So if I want to offer my readers compensation insights using the High/Low End Consultant Salary Estimator, I run the tool, it pulls up the WSDL, looks for inputs, prompts me for those inputs, tests the service with my data, presents the results, and saves the interface as a macro, and as input and output templates. Radio's plumbing is open. Let's make it accessible to the average Joe.
